Maré is the second-largest, southernmost island of the Loyalty Islands, located in the archipelago of New Caledonia. Like the nearby island of Lifou, Maré is a ring-shaped coral reef known as an atoll, a former atoll that has been raised by 120 metres making Maré the highest island in the New Caledonian archipelago.
