Glacier Bay, situated in the SE Alaska panhandle, USA, opens 90km west of Juneau. Misty Fjords National Monument is a region of 928,000 ha along the Inside Passage coast in extreme southeastern Alaska. It lies about 60 km east of Ketchikan, Alaska. Hubbard Glacier enters Disenchantment Bay near the top end of the Alaska panhandle. Marching to the beat of a different drum, Hubbard Glacier is advancing while the rest of Alaska's ice rivers are receding rapidly. The City of Kodiak is situated on the second largest island in the United States, SW of Anchorage in the Gulf of Alaska. Ishinomaki, population 147,000, is a coastal city facing Matsushima Bay and the Pacific Ocean, on the Japanese island of Honshu. Its coastline forms part of the Sanriku Fukko National Park, created after the Great East Japanese Earthquake of 2011.
