Dalian is a port of the Republic of China, lying in the Yellow Sea midway between Tanggu (the port for Beijing) to the west, and the coastline of North Korea to the east. The city’s history in modern times included occupations by Britain, Russia (as a port and rail terminal), and Japan. Mojiko (Moji Port) lies at the western end of the Seto Inland Sea of Japan, between the islands of Honshu and Kyushu where they are separated by the Kanmon Straits. Mojiko is a ward of the city of Kitakyushu, and a major trading port for the region at the end of the 19th century.
