Sail due west from Cape Town towards South America in the South Atlantic Ocean. Near half-way, a volcanic island of 2,062m climbs out of the ocean. Queen Mary's Peak, named after Mary of Teck, the Queen consort of King George V, on the island of Tristan da Cunha (named after a Portuguese explorer in 1506), is an overseas territory of the United Kingdom.
