Taichung is a city located in the Taichung Basin about midway along the western coastal plain of Taiwan. It has a warm, humid subtropical climate, but nevertheless a milder climate than other major cities in the country. Due to the protection provided by the Central Mountain Range to the east and the Miaoli hills to the north, Taichung is rarely severely affected by typhoons.
