Cruises from Sasebo
Sasebo is a deep water industrial port on the Japanese island of Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan’s four major islands. It is located in the Nagasaki Prefecture. As a small fishing port, it was selected in 1883 as the site of a naval base due to its nearness to Korea (200 km distant) and China, and nearby coal fields. It continued as a naval base until the end of WWII, by which time half of the city had been destroyed. From 1945 until today it remains a major United States Naval Base.
