Queen Maud Gulf - named for Queen Maud of Norway - is located between the N coast of the mainland and the SE corner of Victoria Island in Nunavut, Canada. The Queen Maud Gulf Migratory Bird Sanctuary is Canada's largest federally owned protected area, encompassing some 61,765 km2 of the Arctic Circle coastline. The landscape has countless shallow lakes and huge expanses of arctic lowland. It is home to one of the greatest concentrations of nesting geese on earth.
