Puerto Natales is a city in the mainland Chilean Patagonia, located 247 km NW of Punta Arenas. It is the capital of both the commune of the same name and Ultima Esperanza Province in the southernmost part of Chile. Off shore to the west are islands and fjords and the Southern Andes rising to 1700m. Puerto Natales is located in the Última Esperanza Sound (Last Hope Sound), a ‘dead end’ sound north of the Strait of Magellan.
