Port Huon is a small town on the Huon River with a deep-sea wharf capable of handling two ocean-going vessels at a time. It is located 45kms south-west of Hobart, midway between Huonville and Surveyors Bay where the river meets the Tasman Sea. Once it was a busy trading port and a memorial is dedicated to pioneer shipwrights who began building vessels here in 1842.
