Langebaan is a town on Saldanha Bay in the Western Cape province of South Africa, 100km NNW of Cape Town. The town’s population is around 8000. From the bay, saltwater Langebaan Lagoon extends 17km to the south, parallel to the Atlantic Ocean beaches. The area’s history included visits by Portuguese, Dutch and French. The town Langebaan was founded in 1922 and used as a whaling station until the 1960s.
