Falmouth is situated on Jamaica’s north coast about 29 km E of Montego Bay. Jamaica lies in the Caribbean Sea, south of Cuba and west of the Dominican Republic. Historically, Jamaica was involved with the Triangular Trade of slaves, sugar, and rum between the American colonies or Europe, and Africa. From 1840, Falmouth's fortunes as a commercial centre declined after the emancipation of slaves in the British Empire.
