Cardiff is the capital and largest city of Wales, and is now one of the fastest growing cities in the UK. It faces Cardiff Bay, on the north side of the Severn estuary, upstream from Bristol Channel. The Bay is protected by a Barrage built in 1999-2000, that presents a fresh-water lake accessible to small boats by three locks.
