Cruises from Bawean
Bawean Island lies in the Java Sea of Indonesia, about 150 km north of the major Javanese port of Surabaya. The island is fairly circular, about 15 km across. In the centre of the island is the highest point at 655 m. Of its population of 70,000, about 77 percent are females, due to many of the males working in other parts of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore: hence its name 'Island of Women.' Sangkapura on the south coast is the main port, and Tambak is on the north coast.
