Step aboard Regent Seven Seas Explorer, the epitome of luxury cruising. Read our expert review on suites, dining, entertainment, and exclusive onboard experiences.

Our itinerary sailing from Darwin to Townsville. Every luxury is included - unlimited shore excursions, unlimited beverages, prepaid gratuities, specialty restaurants, valet laundry service, unlimited Wi-Fi, entertainment and enrichment. You can disembark at your destination with nothing on your ship account.

I was privileged to be accommodated in a Concierge Suite and it was stunning.  Better than a five-star hotel on land.  A bottle of sparkling wine was waiting on ice for us and a full mini bar!

The size of the suite was comfortable. Every suite on board has a European King bed or two separate European singles, a private balcony, walk-in closets, separate glass door shower, separate deep bath marbled appointed vanity, slippers and a bathrobe.  Laundry and pressing are included and unlimited

You’ll also find an Illy espresso machine, binoculars for in-suite use, movies on demand (no charge), mini-bar set to your preferences (no charge). Suitcases fit under the bed. Wi-Fi is complimentary and as you’re in a Concierge Suite you can have up to four devices logged in at any time. room service is included and available 24/7.

Highlights

We got to do a culinary tour on board the ship and they were making their fantastic Christmas gingerbread houses, the expertise was stunning to see and watch.

The Maître D’ assisted us with booking into the three specialty dining restaurants, which I’d highly recommend doing.  Prime 7 – Classic Steakhouse and decadent seafood. I loved the amazing steak and lobster, popcorn sundae and 14-layer chocolate mousse cake. Chartreuse – French fare with a modern twist, think escargot, foie gras, truffle butter, crème brûlée, duck - this restaurant was my ultimate favourite.  Pacific Rim – offered Pan-Asian Cuisine like sushi & sashimi, soft shell crab tempura, gyoza and lobster tempura.

There are a number of other dining options to, like Compass Rose (the main dining room) and La Veranda, which offers breathtaking views and open-air dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I absolutely loved the lobster nachos with a glass of champagne. You also have the option to dine on the pool deck. Essentially, you can dine whenever, and whenever you please aboard!

Cruise Tip

The dress code is elegant casual. This means we didn’t have to take any long frocks and the guys did not have to wear suits and ties. On the longer cruises of sixteen nights or more they do have optional formal nights. Sports jackets were optional.

A few favourites from the trip included learning to play the card game Bridge – it was intense and very entertaining! Surprisingly, or maybe not, bingo was always packed! The entertainment in all venues was marvellous.

I loved spending time in the Explorer Lounge for pre and post dinner arrangements as it was a more intimate space,  bar with a stage. The singers were fabulous. I also loved the beautiful day spa. I always visit the spa every time I am onboard a ship. I treated myself to some leg treatments and had a hair treatment and cut.

I would recommend this luxury cruise for guests 40 and over. There is a mini golf, pickleball court, casino, two boutique shops on board but no children facilities. Regent surpassed every expectation of six-star elegance and is cemented in my mind as being the cruise industry's culinary and enrichment experts. Regent is the epitome of luxury cruising and I’m grateful for this unforgettable experience.
