    Cristóbal lies at the northern entrance to the Panama Canal. It is part of the province of Colón, a port city at the entrance to Limon Bay, at the Atlantic (Caribbean) entrance of the canal. The island was the base of aragonite sand mining; recently promoted as a terminal for LNG tankers and gas pipeline to Florida; and now under a 100-year lease to MSC Cruises to develop ‘Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve’. With deep port facilities and new shipping terminal, the island will feature in MSC’s presence in the Caribbean from November 2018, with itineraries sailing out of Havana and Miami.
