It is an interesting city with its attractive coastlines, shrines and relics of the aborted Mongolian invasion. Yakushima is an island bout 25km in diameter off the SE coast of Kyushu, 60km south of Kyushu Island and the major port of Kagoshima. It lies at the northern end of the island chain of Ryukyu.
